[ T'was the night before Christmas - well, it had ticked over from the night before Christmas a few hours ago, but it probably didn't count if you hadn't really slept. Then again, Lockon hadn't exactly been sleeping like a baby for going on a week, what with...everything that had happened. It hadn't exactly been a good month. Still, tiredness will usually win out, especially when one knows that they have a day of dealing with probably some form of festivities to come, and he was somewhere between sleeping and dozing. ]

[While Tieria was far from religious, there were steadfast rules that he observed when it came to Christmas. There was one particular rule that all the others were based upon, and it was a simple one:

Don't fuck up Christmas.

Tieria always felt disgustingly guilty at Christmastime. Not because everybody was having fun at a time when they should be remembering their missing comrades, but because if they
weren't having fun, they were letting the lost down. Essentially, it could all be traced back to Christina Sierra. She loved Christmas, and while her crestfallen face when Tieria had shouted at her for decorating the ship's corridors had been bad enough, it was nothing compared to realizing later that the Christmas he had ruined for no good reason whatsoever had been her last.

As such, Tieria now did his best to make sure that everyone was happy in the festive season. All right, so he wasn't going to be running around making sure there was a smile on every face and playing at Santa Claus, but if anybody had any (reasonable) requests, he would try his hardest to allow or fulfill them.

A party of some description was typical on Christmas Day, and it was a rare time at which nearly the entire crew of the base were gathered together. This meant that while the last week or so of hiding from the world (and Lockon in particular) had been "acceptable", Christmas Rule #1 meant that today it definitely wasn't. In turn, this meant that Tieria and Lockon were going to have to come to some sort of understanding, and quickly.

Which was precisely why Tieria was at Lockon's door at 0400 hours on Christmas morning, requesting entry via the door's keypad.]

[Despite being the one to initiate contact, that didn't prevent Tieria from flinching at Lockon's voice issuing from the door panel. Summoning up ridiculous amounts of courage, Tieria decided that the best way to handle this was with efficient honesty.]

Lockon, I have been awake for approximately an hour and twenty-five minutes and during that time I have come to the conclusion that I need to talk to you, because if I don't, then today will be extremely awkward and today is Christmas and people will be expecting us not to avoid each other.

[Perhaps a little too efficient, because that had sounded a little rushed.]

Can I speak to you? Inside? [And after a brief pause:] Please?
